DECEMBER 2011: “A Dog For Both Seasons...”
As most of you know, Bobo is gone. He left loving, joyful memories, but also a huge hole in all our lives, an emptiness we can't fill. How do you replace a Bobo? You don't, you just give thanks that you got to know him.

Bobo was a one-of-a-kind, and there was nothing bashful about him. He had, as Brigitte so aptly put it, "...an abundant eagerness." We called him our spark-plug (among other things, depending on what he was doing at the time), for he was never wanting for energy. That's why his last days were so difficult: his mind was willing, but his strength was gone.
Back in March 2005, when we first moved into the duplex, Bobo was around, usually making a nuisance of himself: chasing cars, barking at male workers, tearing up the garden in hot pursuit of lizards, etc. He was so cute, however, we didn't seem to mind. And that's why around 2 a.m. one night, when I heard him howling, I didn't react in my usual way.
Completely out of character, I got up, got in the car, drove to where he was sitting in the middle of the street, opened the car door and asked, "What's the matter, little fella?" (He didn't have a name at that time). He was so happy to see me that I realized he was howling out of pure loneliness. So, I stayed and petted him for quite a while, and that was all it took: I went back to bed and Bobo was quiet for the rest of the night.
After that, Bobo began spending more time on the duplex's small terrace. He'd accept as much attention as we'd give him, plus various treats, then head out on another adventure. For the valley was his home and you'd see him and his shadow, Mama-jama, everywhere.
In fact, one night we drove a Panamanian to Sorá, a trip that took us down one side of the valley and up the other, plus the descent down into the village. Well, on our way back who should we see, huffing and puffing up the hill almost to the gate—several kilometers from the duplex—but a small golden dog, running through the dark, seemingly upset that we forgot him (we'd been taking him to the construction site by then). We didn't know he felt that way, but he was so ecstatic to see us and join us in the car that our relationship was cemented. After that, we belonged together. He was family.
I don't subscribe to such things, but nonetheless, I've pictured Bobo in hot pursuit of an endless, celestial line of slow-moving vehicles with edible tires. "It's a pleasant fiction..."

Whew, that was rough. I wanted to put something together for Bobo, but I didn't realize how hard it would be. This part should be easier, since I probably won't cry like a baby after each paragraph.
At any rate, there isn't much left to share. For me, it's been a very slow two months, photo-wise (I say "for me" because TC took lots of photos—see below). Between losing Bobo and days of rain, I wasn't in the mood to shoot. Plus, when everything is gray, there's not much to inspire me to grab a camera—a reluctant photog at the best of times. No, it takes interesting lighting to catch my attention...or a cute animal face. As a result, there are only eight images in this gallery, but hopefully, eight images you will enjoy.

Well, as per usual, she was off on yet another adventure, one involving llamas and sheep, followed by a week of yoga training, possibly to get over the llamas and sheep.
